Synopsis:
Heart To Hearts (1988)
Popular singer George Lam gets caught in a love triangle in Heart to Hearts, a hit romantic comedy from director Gordon Chan that went on to spawn two sequels! George Lam is Alex, a music producer who moonlights as a choir teacher. He takes a shine to one of his students (Vivian Chow in her debut), but her overprotective mother (the hilarious Carol "Dodo" Cheng) thinks he might be trying to date her daughter. But the misunderstanding gets ironed out, and Alex begins to see the mother instead - which bothers Alex's ex-girlfriend (Rosamund Kwan). Suddenly, the ex wants Alex back, leading to a tug-of-war between the two women and a final, fateful decision from Alex! The chemistry between George Lam and Carol Cheng, and a star-making performance from Vivian Chow highlight Heart to Hearts, but it's the winning combination of comedy, romance and drama that makes this one of the best Hong Kong romantic comedies of the late eighties. Followed by the sequels, Heart Into Hearts and Hearts Against Hearts.
Heart Into Hearts (1990)
The sequel to the smash comedy Heart To Hearts, Heart Into Hearts brings back the entire original cast, and adds luminous Hong Kong star Maggie Cheung! Judy (Carol "Dodo" Cheng) and her daughter Vivian (Vivian Chow) have moved in with composer Alex Lui (George Lam), but that's not the end of their relationship issues. Though Alex's ex-girlfriend is out of the picture, new competition arrives in the form of Jo (Maggie Cheung), a movie director who hits it off with the charming Alex. Judy struggles to keep Jo's mitts off her man, but there are more problems on the horizon as Alex's cousin (Hui Siu Hung) arrives from Canada with his two children - and some hilarious perverted antics - in tow! It all adds up to even more smiles and laughs, as Heart Into Hearts hits delirious Hong Kong comedy high gear! George Lam and Carol Cheng once again demonstrate their classic screen chemistry, and Maggie Cheung brings her luminous charm and comedic chops to the mix. Followed by the third film in the series, Heart Against Hearts.
Heart Against Hearts (1992)
The final episode to the romantic comedy trilogy starring popular singer George Lam, the hilarious Carol "Dodo" Cheng, and singer Vivian Chow, Heart against Heart directed by Stephen Shin is just as entertaining as the two previous episodes. Judy (Carol Cheng) and Alex (George Lam) finally get married and form a warm family with Judy's daughter Vivian (Vivian Chow). Just when they think they can settle down with their new lives, a new crisis is awaiting them. The liquidation of Alex's company throws him out of a job, and Judy has to support the family. She learns financial investment with Alex's friend E.T. (Paul Chun), and, strangely enough for a new joiner, receives a promotion soon after she starts. Alex, unemployed at home, suspects his newlywed wife of having an affair with E.T., but he discovers something more serious: the whole thing about E.T.'s company is a fraud...
